אחד הפרטים המטלטלים ביותר הוא שלא כל ההרוגים נפגעו מיד , חלקם מתו מדימום לאחר הפיגוע, משום שכוחות הצלה ישראליים לא הורשו להגיע לזירה במשך זמן ממושך. עדים סיפרו כי גם כאשר היה רופא במקום שניסה להגיש עזרה, נמנעה ממנו הגישה לפצועים באיומי נשק. בנוסף, דווח כי חיילים מצרים נוספים במקום לא עצרו מיד את היורה, מה שהאריך את משך האירוע והחמיר את התוצאות. העובדה הזו מעלה שאלות קשות לא רק על הירי עצמו, אלא גם על ההתנהלות לאחריו. עבור רבים, זהו אחד המרכיבים הכואבים ביותר של האירוע . לא רק מה שקרה, אלא מה שלא נעשה בזמן.

One of the most disturbing details is that not all the victims died immediately , some died from bleeding after the attack because Israeli rescue teams were not allowed to reach the scene for a prolonged period. Witnesses reported that even when a doctor on site tried to provide aid, he was prevented from reaching the wounded at gunpoint. In addition, reports indicated that other Egyptian soldiers present did not immediately stop the shooter, which prolonged the attack and worsened its consequences. This raises difficult questions not only about the shooting itself, but also about what happened afterward.
